Location. The Belle Epoque Swissotel Metropole hotel in Geneva, Switzerland, is one block from Lake Geneva. Built in 1854 on former battlegrounds, the lakeview Swissotel Metropole was a World War II Red Cross base. Refurbished in the 1980s, it maintains its original exterior. Guests go up a grand staircase to the high-ceilinged lobby, with chandeliers and grey-stone columns.Le Grand Quai restaurant is decorated in Belle Epoque style with red and gold drapes, trompe d'oeil (eye trick) paintings and a chandelier. It serves traditional French cuisine, and guests can eat on the cobble square outside in the summer. The hotel's lobby bar has a grand piano and leather seating. Sandwiches and wine are served in the contemporary Le Bistropole restaurant.The hotel's six meeting rooms host up to 350 people.
